The nothing, in the gastronomical sense of the term, has
its precise identity, its specific and unique atmosphere. It is a nothingness
which is sad, potentially catastrophic. But, mind you, it is never really
the "Nothingness", which could, in the philosophical sense, even
provide consolation; something is always present and here we have Eat Eat
Hurrah. Quick and easy cooking means above all, outdoing oneself, once more
trusting in life, in past experience; looking into the furthest back corners
of our cupboard as well as inside ourselves.
And here, in the desert, the first flowers bloom, a slice of bread, half a
tomato, a cup of beans, an old and slightly moldy piece of cheese, a dried
old apple, some sugar. And the zest for life returns; a smile, at first timid,
slowly broadens and blood begins once more to flow in the veins
Gradually the dinner takes form, the old becomes new, the rancid becomes succulent,
the limp "crunchy". True alchemy; in other words, cooking, returned
to that point where fantasy and ability converge!
The cooking of leftovers, no matter how frugal and "ancient" they
may be, has filled innumerable volumes and, not rarely, a dish prepared with
leftovers turns out more magnificent than the "official" dish from
which it descended. But thats another story, for another time. For those
in the know, in this area, there is one dish in particular, fried pasta!
