"la merenda cenoira", a cross between the afternoon snack
and the evening meal. We are planning a separate section on this theme. For
the moment, in homage to the globalization of eating habits, and our American
friends (who hopefully will be numerous and habitual visitors of Eat Eat Hurrah),
there is a brunch chapter.
Our preparations are simple and tasty, taken from an international repertory,
requiring equally simple and rapid execution, and therefore allowing more
time at the table, giving real meaning to this
"strange
interlude":
Children playing in the garden, a group of friends,
gaily table hop, picking laughingly at the various
plates. Susan, visibly upset by Henry's coolness,
does not share in the relaxed gaiety of the moment.
Enter Margot, with a plate of her famous "eggs
alla sultana". The camera passes from a
close-up of the girl to a close-up of the eggs.
They look delicious. In the background, we
sense excitement, expressed in giggles, jokes,
even a brief applause. Susan finally relaxes
and takes a healthy serving from the plate just
brought to the table. Everyone seems happy.
There is a knock at the door.
