Things needed in the kitchen
Absolutely indispensable:
bottle opener
bowls, several sizes, small for mixing and storing to deep ones for meringue
can opener
coffee pot
colander
corkscrew
cutting board
dishtowels
Dutch oven for pot roasts and stews, a fairly large cast iron one is best
forks, knives, tablespoons and teaspoons in stainless steel, even inexpensive.
grater, multiple sided, for shredding and grating cheese, citrus peel, nutmeg, etc.
heavy skillet, possibly cast iron, for grilling steaks
juicer
kettle
knife sharpener
knives, at least 1 large heavy one for carving, medium for slicing and 3 for paring
ladle
mallot (steak tenderizer)
ovenproof dishes, casseroles, and earthenware dishes and pots
plates, soup and cereal bowls, desert plates
pot holders, at least 4
pots, deep for boiling and stewing, in varying sizes, with lids
saucepans, small and medium sized, with lids
skillets, at least three sizes (7 inches, 10 inches and 12 inches in diameter)
skimmer, or strainer spoon, in wood or metal
spatula, 1 small for spreading, 1medium and 1 large for turning meat or serving
spoons, at least 3 for mixing, a long handled wooden spoon, a large basting spoon
teapot
vegetable peeler
wooden spoon, at least 1 but 3 are better
